I have been listining to people lately tell me how busy they are. I patiently listen to all the things they have going on in their lives and wish I could waive a wand and make it better for them. Most people I run into genuinely have a lot on their plate. They work, have children, commute or run a small business, have social and community/church obligations and really do seem to have a lot going on.
However, the more I listen and the more I hear people complain about busyness in their lives, the more I observe that even if people don’t have all those things going on in their lives they complain about being too busy. So I have to ask, does anyone bring this on themselves?
I often observe that many of us waste unnecessary time, time that could easily keep us from feeling overwhelmed the things that have to be done. So how do we waste time. Simply by looking for things. I have observed friends and co-workers be completely ready to go some where and then not be able to find their keys or handbag. And when we start looking for the missing items, we sift through old mail, magazines, laundry only to find them into an equally cluttered car.
I believe clutter and disorganization to be the number one problem when people tell me they feel behind the eight ball. It is easy to get exhausted when, in addition to doing all the stuff we HAVE to do in a day, we have to find the little things that make our day possible. Things like keys, handbags, wallets, briefcases, reports, note pads, glasses, yuu name it and it can be lost in a cluttered environment.
If you find yourself feeling like you are always late, your life is too busy or you need to “dump” some of your work, ask yourself if you could be the problem. It could be that the habit of living in a cluttered environment has begun to rob you of time that you could be spending on funt endeavors. Are you the problem? Then you are also the solution!
